Description
Bushara Island is a lush, 16-hectare private island in Lake Bunyonyi managed by the Lake Bunyonyi Development Company, a nonprofit that supports sustainable farming, women’s empowerment, and education for orphans in the region. The island is home to Bushara Island Camp, an eco-friendly retreat.
Although relatively small, Bushara Island has a diversity of habitats, including forest groves of eucalyptus and black wattle dense shrub-lands, gardens, papyrus swamp, and reedy shorelines. These habitats are home to more than 130 bird species.

Access
Bushara Island is located in Lake Bunyonyi, southwestern Uganda. To reach Bushara Island, you’ll first travel to Lake Bunyonyi, about 8 hours by road from Kampala or a shorter trip from Kigali via Kabale. From the lakeshore, a short canoe or motorboat ride takes you to the island.
