Descripción
Bavelaw Marsh comprises an area of open water with emergent vegetation which is a relatively rare habitat in the Lothians and is of importance for breeding and over-wintering wildfowl. Among the breeding birds in the wetland are Zampullín Común, Porrón Moñudo, Ostrero Euroasiático, Zarapito Real and Avefría Europea. Over-wintering species include Cisne Cantor, Porrón Osculado, Ánsar piquicorto, Cerceta Común and Ánsar común.
Bavelaw Marsh has an amazing bridge view which gives you a possibilty of seeing birds on either side of the bridge. After the bridge there is a gate you have to open to get to the boardwalk which takes you to the comfortable bird hide which has seats for birdwatching.

Bavelaw Marsh is located in the Pentlands Hills Regional Park, close to Balerno. You can get a 44 bus to the bus terminus at Balerno and walk up to Bavelaw Marsh. Click on the P in the map for directions to the car park. From the accessible car park it is 10-15 minute walk to the bird hide.
