Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large златно блатарче flocks in winter, with records of American Golden Plover and Pacific Golden Plover. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the мала чиграs that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
мал морски нуркач and голем морски нуркач, and occasionally белец, can be seen offshore in winter, and White-billed Diver has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Синогушка, жолто гушанче and Desert Wheatear. Snow Bunting regular in winter. обично страче and големо страче have both occurred on passage.
