Description
The Deben Estuary is a nationally and internationally significant wintering area for up to 6,000 European Golden Plover, 600 Black-tailed Godwit, Common Redshank and 400+ Avocet. Also Dunlin, Red Knot, Grey Plover and Northern Lapwing. Common Goldeneye at Martlesham Creek and Great Northern Diver at Ramsholt. Great Crested Grebe, Slavonian Grebe, Black-necked Grebe and Water Rail possible. Small flock of Twite most winters. High tides are best for seeing roosting waders, check tide times and height first (see the link below). Take care not to get cut off by exceptionally high tides.

From Ipswich take A12 to Woodbridge then various minor roads to Waldringfield on south bank or Bawdsey on north bank. Boat hire available Woodbridge or Waldringfield.
