Beschrijving
A man made boulder coastal defence and a small bay with a freshwater outlet make this a popular spot for coastal birds. As the large mudflats get covered with a rising tide the birds congregate along the shore. Anywhere from the pier westward can be good for roosting waders, but the small bay is generally good. Birds you can observe include Paarse Strandloper, Stormmeeuw, Bontbekplevier, Drieteenstrandloper and Rotgans.

Hampton is located in Herne Bay. Free roadside parking is available approaching and next to the small bay, of small pay and display car park beside the pier. Press P on the map for directions. There is probably a bus service to get you to within a few hundred meters of the beach. If you're just ticking species the under an hour would probably suffice but it can be good for photography in which case allow quite a bit longer. Ideally arrive at least 1.5 hours before high tide (see a link to the tide table below), you can position yourself so that the in coming tide pushes the birds towards you.
