Description
Martin Mere is a Site of Special Interest. The name of the centre comes from the mere on the west side of the reserve, which is ringed by more than ten observation hides. This reserve is at its best in winter, attracting huge flocks of rövidcsőrű lúd, Fütyülő réce and Csörgo réce, many Énekes hattyú, and occasional rarer birds such as Sarki lúd, álarcos réce and Green-winged Teal. It is also excellent for wintering birds of prey such as Kékes rétihéja, Vándorsólyom and Kis sólyom. Waders such as Nagy goda, Pajzsoscankó and Piroslábú cankó can be seen from hides as well as rarer smaller birds such as fenyőpinty in the woodlands.
