Descrição
Middleton Sands is a birding site for residents and those passing by to breeding grounds. Also a very good autumn birding spot, with visible migration of finches, wagtails, thrushes, pipits and larks often in the morning. Among the birds you can encounter in the area are Ostraceiro, Maçarico-real, Perna-vermelha-comum, Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Borrelho-grande-de-coleira, Pato-branco, Gaivota-de-cabeça-preta, Gaivota-pequena, Guincho-comum, gaivota-da-asa-escura, Andorinha-do-mar-comum, Petinha-marítima, alvéola-branca, Garça-branca-pequena, Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas, Cisne-bravo, Cisne-vulgar and Ganso-de-bico-curto.

The easiest approach is to leave the M6 Motorway at junction 34. Follow the A683 through Lancaster and on towards Morecambe and then Heysham. Turn left following signs to Overton (for Sunderland Point) or Middleton (for Potts Corner). Middleton Sands can be accessed via country lanes. A couple of parking areas even when the tide is in (see link to the tides table below). Accessible by car or bycicle. There is parking for maybe 20 vehicles. Only been there when there was at most 8 cars. Area used by dog walkers.
