Description

Located in the heart of the Somerset Levels and Moors, Greylake is a flat wetland with good paths and reedbed. Thanks to all the water, you can see Northern Lapwing, Common Redshank and Common Snipe nesting in the spring. Smaller birds such as Sedge Warbler, Western Yellow Wagtail and Reed Bunting can be heard and seen singing from the trails.

Over winter, vast flocks of ducks and waders, being hunted by birds of prey. Northern Lapwing and European Golden Plover are sometimes joined by Dunlin, Ruff and Black-tailed Godwit. Large flocks of Eurasian Wigeon, Common Teal and smaller groups of Northern Shoveler, Gadwall and Northern Pintail feed in front of the hides. Peregrine Falcon and Western Marsh Harrier are seen regularly and Merlin and Hen Harrier occasionally.
