Stocker's Lake has lots of wildfowl and woodland birds. Lots of variation through the seasons. Several hides/screens and a large heronry.

Description

A large and attractive lake in the Colne Valley with nationally important numbers of wintering birds. Stocker’s Lake is 40 hectares and one of the oldest gravel pits in the area. Over 60 species of breeding birds have been recorded here and the heronry is one of the largest in the UK.

Spring: Common Chiffchaff, Cetti's Warbler, Grey Heron, Little Egret, Barn Swallow, Red-crested Pochard. Summer: Common Tern Autumn: Great Crested Grebe, Osprey. Winter: Common Goldeneye, Smew, Common Kingfisher, Northern Shoveler, Eurasian Siskin, Common Redpoll, Eurasian Wigeon.

Circular walk round the lake (3,5 km) with great cafe at the end.

Large car park at Rickmansworth Aquadrome (next door). Nearest train is Rickmansowrth station. Easy walk.
