Description

In few places is the mix of history and nature as visible as in the Antitankgracht. What was once a defense line against the German troops is today a valuable nature reserve. It is a paradise for birds, plants and amphibians. Animals such as Common Kingfisher feel at home here. The Antitankgracht formed part of the KW line, which ran from Koningshooikt to Wavre. Near the Antitankgracht you can discover the remains of the Castle of Roost. The castle has a rich past dating back to the fourteenth century. Only part of the outer moat has remained visible.

The groundwater of the Antitankgracht is of very good quality, teeming with aquatic life. In spring you will find newts in addition to numerous toads and frogs. Thanks to the surrounding croplands, you can observe beautiful species here during all seasons and migration times. Including: Common Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Redwing, Fieldfare, Black Redstart, Northern Lapwing. This is also a nice location to observe birds of prey such as Common Buzzard, Eurasian Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Little Owl, Tawny Owl.

Waaronder: Common Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Redwing, Fieldfare, Black Redstart, Northern Lapwing. Ook is dit een mooie locatie voor roofvogels zoals: Common Buzzard, Eurasian Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Little Owl, Tawny Owl.
