Description

De Gevel is a quietly located nature reserve consisting of a central reed land surrounded by wet forests and grasslands. The present poplars are ideal breeding grounds for birds of prey, but also for Golden Oriole. The latter has been present every summer since 2015. The following rare species have been seen here: Whooper Swan, Red Kite, Black Kite and Common Raven. Among the top 5 most observed species are Eurasian Coot, Eurasian Moorhen, Grey Heron, Mallard and Common Cuckoo. Note: the breeding season is from April to July, which means that part of the nature reserve is temporarily inaccessible. In the central reed area you have a good chance to hear Water Rail calling.
