Description

Located in Hesbaye namuroise, the Décanteurs de Longchamps complex comprises some fifteen basins spanning some fifty hectares. Most of these basins are intended to receive muddy water from the grating, which has been used to wash beets, while others, unused, are fed by rainwater. The presence of mudflats, due to the seasonal variation in water levels, and the development of a diverse vegetation, attracts a large number of birds making the site one of the top birdingplaces in Wallonia. Most are passing (especially the limicoles with 36 species reported!) but some rare species breed there, such as Black-necked Grebe, Common Gull and Bluethroat.

Note: This is private property where birdwatchers are tolerated. Respect the site! Access to the site requires prior authorization, which can be requested at the following address: Info.longchamps@raftir.be
