Description

The Handzame Broeken area consists of a extensive agricultural area, being mainly pastures, with scattered trees, bushes and willow tree lanes. The Kreekebeek river flows through the area and is a great spot for waterfowl, like Common Teal, Eurasian Wigeon and Northern Shoveler. The surrounding pastures are good for flocks of Northern Lapwing. In winter, these pastures are part of the hunting grounds for Hen Harrier. In winter, area is also good for Whooper Swan.

The scattered (willow) trees are great for observing Little Owl and Stock Dove. The scattered bushes and fences are a great spot for breeding species, like European Stonechat and Whinchat.
