Description

Pompje Oudenburg is a meadow area with ponds and reed beds. In 2009 this area was constructed as compensation for the expansion of the port of Zeebrugge. It is now a very bird-rich area with 68 hectares of saline grassland, 4 hectares of polder grassland and 10 hectares of reed marsh, where the Great Bittern, among others, breeds. Other birds that breed in the area are Common Shelduck, Bluethroat, Sedge Warbler, Greater Whitethroat, Black-tailed Godwit, Black-winged Stilt, Avocet, Common Redshank, Northern Shoveler and Garganey.

Nederlands: Pompje Oudenburg is een weidegebied met plassen en rietkragen. In 2009 werd dit gebied aangelegd als compensatie voor de uitbreiding van de haven van Zeebrugge. Inmiddels is het een zeer vogelrijk gebied met 68 ha zilt grasland, 4 ha poldergrasland en 10 ha rietmoeras, waar onder meer de Great Bittern broedt. Andere vogels die in het gebied broeden zijn Common Shelduck, Bluethroat, Sedge Warbler, Greater Whitethroat, Black-tailed Godwit, Black-winged Stilt, Avocet, Common Redshank, Northern Shoveler en Garganey.

Access

The area is somewhat more difficult to reach via country roads. Therefore, the easiest way to explore the area is on foot or by bicycle. There is not directly a parking space nearby.
