Nature and recreational zone to the northwest from Leuven. There's a protected natural area rich in biodiversity.
The Provincial Domain Kessel-Lo has a big pond that is home to different types of ducks, Eurasian Coot, Grey Heron, Great Cormorant, Little Grebe, Mute Swan and many more, which can be seen from the bird watching hide (see map). Also the Common Kingfisher, different woodpeckers, Short-toed Treecreeper andEurasian Nuthatch reside in the area.
In winter time the Water Rail can be found in the protected natural area called 'Lovenarenbroek'.
The Provincial Domain is located just northeast of the city of Leuven. There are different car parks and also a camper site. Press a P on the map for directions to a car park. The area can only be explored on foot.
