The Verdronken Weide is a nature reserve of just over 40 ha with very low lying meadows that collect water. A trail runs around the area.

Description

The Verdronken Weide is a nature reserve of just over 40 ha near the village of Ieper/Ypres. The area has a deep pool and grasslands with varying water levels. More than 160 bird species occur in the area, including Garganey, Northern Shoveler, Little Ringed Plover, Avocet, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Common Snipe, Sedge Warbler, Water Rail and Bluethroat. Part of the area is grazed by cattle. It is very close from Ieper (1km from the town hall), a grass path runs around it, various items to see (water, meadows, shrubs, trees, orchards). There is also a bird watching hide in the area.

Only accessible on foot, You can park on different spots around the area (Rijselseweg or Komenseweg). Click on the P in the map to get directions. The trail around the area is 2.6 km.

Difficult to reach the bird hide with wheelchair. In winter period some wet area's on the path.
