In the spring it is on the puddles near the river Ijzer a coming and going of passing waders. For species such as Eurasian Curlew, Snipe , Black-tailed Godwit , Northern Lapwing , Common Redshank , Wood Sandpiper , Green Sandpiper it is an important stopover on the way to the northern breeding areas. Other notable spring guests are Spoonbill , Little Egret and Great Egret. In the varied area, birds such as Bluethroat and Avocet breed.
