Small shallow reservoir, with surrounding wet meadows. The habitats attract hundreds of birds every season.
The Kaloyanovo Reservoir, located 20 km north of the city of Plovdiv, is one of the best places in South Bulgaria for observing different waterbirds all year round. More than 215 species can be observed in the reservoir and its surroundings. The place is one of the best in Bulgaria for shorebirds. Ferruginous Duck,, Common Pochard, Great Crested Grebe, Eurasian Coot and many other species nests there in significant amounts. Ruff, Black-winged Stilt, Black Tern, Garganey, Little Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, Glossy Ibis, Spoonbill can be seen in huge groups during migration. The place is one of the best for observing Collared Pratincole, which is a common nesting and migrating species, and one of the places with biggest chance of seeing Black-winged Pratincole during migration.
Access with car or by foot. The area can be reached with car from the South, from road 64, with turn for Tsarimir village (asphalt and 1.5 km dirt road). Also from the North - from Kaloyanovo village (asphalt and 2 km dirt road).
