Description

Lake Lokvarsko (Lokvarsko Jezero) is an artificial lake covering over 2 square kms and 40 m deep. The beautiful forested slopes that border the lake are rich in birds and hold for example different species of woodpecker, including Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, White-backed Woodpecker, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Eurasian Wryneck and Black Woodpecker. Among the other birds you can encounter around Lake Lokvarsko are Mute Swan, Great Crested Grebe, Pygmy Cormorant, Common Cuckoo, Common Raven, Coal Tit, Crested Tit, European Bee-eater, Black Stork, Eurasian Wryneck, Golden Oriole and European Honey-buzzard.

Access

A beautiful 18 km circular trail runs around the reservoir. You can choose to walk the complete trail, or only do parts of it. Although there is no real starting point for entering the Lokvarsko Lake trail, you can join it from the bridge below the village of Zelin Mrzlovodički. Click on the P in the map to get directions. The Lokvarsko Lake trail is a long but easy route that takes an average of 5 hours to complete.
