The National Nature Reserve Velký and Malý Tisý is a complex of ponds that is an internationally important site for waterfowl.
Velký and Malý Tisý is a national nature reserve between Lomnice nad Lužnicí and Třeboní. It ranks among the most important pond reserves in the Czech Republic. The reserve consists of a complex of 11 ponds of various sizes with green banks, bays, peninsulas and islets, followed by wet meadows, forests and fields. The biggest pond is Velký Tisý with a total area of 317 hectares. More than 150 bird species have been recorded in the area. Good area to spot birds like White-tailed Eagle, Marsh Harrier, Red-crested Pochard, Common Goldeneye, Water Rail, Collared Flycatcher, Northern Lapwing, Common Tern, Sedge Warbler and Common Crane.
On road no. 24 from Třeboň or from Veselí nad Lužnicí to Lomnice nad Lužnicí. Here you turn along Budějovicka Street along road No. 148. After leaving Lomnice, you will soon have the dam of the Koclířov pond on our right. About half way through the embankment, you turn left onto a smaller asphalt road that leads to the embankment of the Velký Tisý pond and to Šáloun orchards, where there is also the possibility of accommodation and refreshments in Dvůr Šaloun. It is possible to park before the entrance to the dam of the pond (49°4'5.686" N, 14°42'27.817" E). Motor vehicles are not allowed to enter the dam itself. Note: the reserve is freely accessible only on public roads leading mainly along the dams of the ponds. Please respect nature and do not disturb the nesting birds!
