Nyord is a small island and besides the farmland, the island consists of 400 hectares of beach meadows. In winter these are flooded with seawater. These meadows are known as one of the best habitats for wading and swimming birds in Denmark. In spring, many birds breed here. From the tower you can observe waders here such as Common Greenshank, Avocet, Northern Lapwing, Common Redshank. There is also a chance of seeing White-tailed Eagle, Osprey, Peregrine Falcon or Montagu's Harrier. You can take a walk to the village past the Hyldevang Nature Center and see birds along the way such as Tree Sparrow, Linnet, Western Yellow Wagtail en European Stonechat. In the small harbour you can see Common Tern hunting for fish and maybe find a European Shag.
