Description

El Gouna is a resort on the Red Sea and an oasis in a surrounding desert. It is ideally placed for migrant birds and one rarely needs to leave the area to find some waders or other birds. The mangrove lagoon next to Abydos Marina is good on an incoming tide. There are mangrove and scrubby areas with some gardens. Among the birds you can encounter are Grey Plover, Kentish Plover, Common Ringed Plover, Spur-winged Lapwing, Eurasian Curlew, Slender-billed Gull, White-eyed Gull, Caspian Tern, Little Egret, Western Reef-Heron, Osprey and Northern Wheatear.
