Description

Crocodile Island is located in the river Nile. The reedbeds and wetlands line the shore on both sides of the bridge to the mainland. Look for Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Purple Heron, Purple Swamphen, Eurasian Hobby, Lesser Kestrel, Western Marsh Harrier, Pied Kingfisher, Osprey, Black-winged Kite, wintering dabbling ducks and waders.

The hotel gardens are a refuge for smaller birds and migrants such as European Bee-eater, Asian Green Bee-eater, Golden Oriole, Eurasian Scops Owl, Eurasian Hoopoe, European Turtle Dove, Eurasian Nightjar, Eurasian Wryneck, Red-backed Shrike and various warblers.

Access

Luxor is a popular tourist destination with its own airport. Trains from Cairo take about 10 hours. Crocodile Island is located in the river Nile just south of Luxor. From the city centre there are plentiful buses and taxis.
