Crocodile Island (aka King's Island, Maritim Jolie Ville, Jazirat al Awamiyyah) at Luxor has wetland habitat, open water, and lush irrigated hotel gardens.
Crocodile Island is located in the river Nile. The reedbeds and wetlands line the shore on both sides of the bridge to the mainland. Look for Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Purple Heron, Purple Swamphen, Eurasian Hobby, Lesser Kestrel, Marsh Harrier, Pied Kingfisher, Osprey, Black-winged Kite, wintering dabbling ducks and waders.
The hotel gardens are a refuge for smaller birds and migrants such as European Bee-eater, Asian Green Bee-eater, Golden Oriole, Eurasian Scops Owl, Hoopoe, European Turtle Dove, Eurasian Nightjar, Wryneck, Red-backed Shrike and various warblers.
Luxor is a popular tourist destination with its own airport. Trains from Cairo take about 10 hours. Crocodile Island is located in the river Nile just south of Luxor. From the city centre there are plentiful buses and taxis.
