Best urban area for waterbirds and waders near Tallinn. More than 230 bird species have been seen here.
Paljassaare Special Conservation Area is a waders paradise. There is wooden broadwalk and at the end of "waders paradise" is bench. The shallow seabed attracts waders. Sometimes they are as close as 25 m. The area is very exposed so it can be quite windy. Among the birds you can encounter are Common Ringed Plover, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Grey Plover, Red-breasted Merganser, Common Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Dunlin, Curlew Sandpiper, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Whooper Swan, Garganey, Tufted Duck, Common Goldeneye, Northern Shoveler, Western Yellow Wagtail, Common Rosefinch, Common Tern and Arctic Tern.
The area has a big parking lot. Click on the P in the map to get directions. Near the parking lot are many information signs which show you where to go. Actually you can start birding near the Katariina pier. The route indicated on the map is about 2 km long (one way)
