A popular spot for birders to watch and count migrating birds as they fly by. Also good for seeing more local birdlife.
Vuosaaren Huippu is an old landfill that has been made into a beautiful nature area over the years. This particular spot is popular among birders and has good space to set one's telescope as it provides a view to multiple directions and is not directly in the way of other visitors. The hill is a great place to watch the migration of artic birds. It is also a great spot for watching the migration of birds of prey during autumn.
While great for observing birds that fly by, the surrounding bushes, grassy hills and nearby forest areas are also full of life during the warmer months and it's possible to see all kinds of local and migrating birds on them. Some birders have seen a few rarities from this hill as well. The whole hill area is a great place for birding and it's easy to spend a full day birdwatching when the weather is good.
A few examples of birds that can be seen on this spot: Golden Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Osprey, Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Northern Goshawk, Barnacle Goose, Greater White-fronted Goose, Taiga Bean Goose, Greylag Goose, Eurasian Kestrel, Whooper Swan, Marsh Harrier, Snow Bunting, Dunnock, Bullfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Yellowhammer, Long-tailed Tit, Northern Wheatear, Common Redstart, Common Chiffchaff, Greater Whitethroat and Willow Warbler.
There's a parking place close to the hill and it's possible to cycle in the area. There are clearly signed nature paths all around the hill area. Walking is one of the best ways to explore the landfill hill area.
