Description

Bord de Saône de Crissey is an interesting area for birds because of the floods of the Saône. In winter or spring during heavy rains the plain is flooded. When there are large areas of water in the plain, the site becomes very attractive whatever the time of year. In winter there are many species of waterfowl like Greater White-fronted Goose, Taiga Bean Goose or Common Shelduck. One can also easily observe Merlin or the rarer Great Grey Shrike. In the spring, the floods tend to attract migrating shorebirds such as Whimbrel, Black-winged Stilt or Avocet. Rarities such as Greater Short-toed Lark, Purple Swamphen or Pectoral Sandpiper are sometimes found. Note that the site is really only of interest during periods of flooding of the Saône.
