Description

Étang de Viges is interesting because of migratory and wintering birds. In summer, you can regularly observe Purple Heron and Black-crowned Night Heron. During migration and wintering, the site gains in interest, especially for hosting ducks (Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Gadwall) and divers. Common Pochard, Tufted Duck and waders arrive in autumn when water levels drop. For example waders such as Common Snipe, Jack Snipe, Dunlin, Common Ringed Plover and Green Sandpiper. As far as breeders are concerned, there are Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe and Water Rail, to name a few. As for raptors, the Osprey regularly stops here on spring and autumn migration, and Black Kite nests here. Observation preferably in the morning (against the light from midday).
