Description

In the 1960s, a gravel pit was opened in the flooded meadow of Aloyeau, which extends along the Maine River. The city decided to transform the lake of 110 hectares created following the exploitation of gravels into a leisure center that was opened to the public in 1978. Several watersports are practiced there, but thanks to the decision to of the management services to take into account the preservation of the fauna and the flora, the Lake of Maine has become an birding site of great interest, with 235 species of birds recorded in almost 30 years. Lac de Maine has also a nesting colony of herons. Easy observation from all around the lake.
