On the shores of lake Charnier this marsh area has vast reed beds with a high concentration of Marsh Harrier.
Roselière du Charnier is a marsh area mainly covered with reed beds and with numerous canals and ponds. Reed areas can be difficult for birding but this area has many paths, and especially micro-reliefs that allow you to observe above the reeds. I have never observed so many Marsh Harrier (visit in January-February 2022), sometimes 3 at the same time within a radius of a few hundred meters. But also Mute Swan, Greater Flamingo and Glossy Ibis. Other birds that are often observed in the area are Great Reed Warbler, Bearded Tit, Purple Swamphen, Black-winged Stilt, Spoonbill, Zitting Cisticola, Black-crowned Night Heron, Purple Heron, Squacco Heron and Water Rail.

You can park near the bridge over the canal. Click on the P in the map for directions. Even within the reed bed you can explore parts by car. There are roads and paths, you can often park on the side.
