Description
Bughdasheni Lake is a relatively small lake south of the village of Gorelovka at the mouth of the Zagranichnaia River. Like the other lakes in the Javakheti region, the lake is located on a plateau. The lake is situated at an elevation of approximately 2,000 meters, resulting in a vast and sparsely vegetated landscape. Extensive agriculture is practiced around the lake.
In spring several water birds can be expected such as: Armenian Gull, Great White Pelican, Dalmatian Pelican, Glossy Ibis, Common Crane, Red-necked Grebe, Black-necked Grebe and Purple Heron. There is also an island where Black-crowned Night Heron and a breeding colony of Great Cormorant are present. In addition, several Jackdaw (soemmerringii) are present on dung heaps near the village of Gorelovka. The White Stork is well represented in the area around the lake as a breeding bird. In spring there is a chance of seeing Black-headed wagtail, Citrine Wagtail and Red-throated Pipit directly around the lake. The plains surrounding the lake are full of Corn Bunting en Eurasian Skylark.
