Description
Vachiani Lake is one of dozens of lakes on the Javakheti Plateau, but is significant for birdwatching because many species can be seen here at short range. Great White Pelican and Dalmatian Pelican forage here regularly in small numbers. Above the water White-winged Tern and Whiskered Tern forage together.
During spring many migrant waders like Ruff, Little Stint and Wood Sandpiper, pipits and wagtails (Red-throated Pipit, Citrine Wagtail , Black-headed wagtail and Grey-headed Wagtail (thunbergi)) can be seen on the West side of the lake (1 on the map). If you're lucky you can see Marsh Sandpiper or Red-necked Phalarope here. Red-necked Grebe breed close to shore (2 on the map).
