The Aschauteiche are a beautiful pond landscape with around 50 ponds located north of the town of Eschede. The ponds are a paradise for birds. From an observation tower there are great views over this landscape. The landscape has been designated as a Natura 2000 protected area and is therefore under special protection. Among the birds you can encounter are Common Kingfisher, Great Egret, Grey Heron, Greylag Goose and Mute Swan. In the surrounding area more rare birds like Common Crane, Red-necked Grebe, Black Stork, Osprey and White-tailed Eagle breed and they can sometimes be observed in the pond area.

The car park for Aschauteiche is located directly on the B 191 between Eschede and Weyhausen, after about 2.5 km turn left at the Pond management. Click on the P in the map for directions. By bus: Line 300 from the direction of Celle stops in the center of the village and you walk about 38 minutes (3.1 km) or you can take the train to the train station and walk from there about 36 minutes (3 km) to the parking lot Aschauteiche.
