The artificially created Boisdorf lake is located in the Marienfeld recultivation area. Many water birds can be seen on around 17 hectares of water.
Boisdorfer See is an open-cast mining lake that is about 24 m deep and surrounded by forest. The area around the lake also serves as a flood retention basin for the river. In addition to the permanent guests such as Eurasian Coot and Great Cormorant, there are always migratory birds in winter and winter guests such as Common Pochard. Even Common Scoter and Long-tailed Duck are sometimes seen here in winter.
Parking is recommended at the Wanderparkplatz Marienfeld. Click on the P in the map to get directions. From there you can make a circular walk through the surrounding forest and along the lake of about 5 km (see the map).
