Ehemalige Rieselfelder Werne

Nordrhein-Westfalen  >  Germany

Nice area, especially in spring, when the area holds a lot of water. Whinchat is very often observed during spring.

In the beginning of Ehemalige Rieselfelder Werne you pass a tiny forest, where you can find Wren, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Eurasian Green Woodpecker and some other forest species. In the winter you can see Great Egret, Greater White-fronted Goose and sometimes even a Tundra Bean Goose. The biggest part of the area are fields that sometimes hold water. These fields are fenced, wich is good for Whinchat and European Stonechat. In the fields you can see Meadow Pipit and Western Yellow Wagtail you can watch even in the summer.

You have to park at the cemetery. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking you can go into a small path, where you first see a tiny forest and then the fields

Extra info

How good the area is for birding depends on how much water there is. If there is much water, it is good, if there is no water, you nearly see nothing. In 2016 Little Egret and in 2015 a Western Yellow Wagtail (flavissima) was recorded.
