Freiburg is a city worth a visit and the Rieselfeld is close enough to be compatible with a visit to the town. In the wet areas, you can find wetland-loving birds such as ducks, Snipe, Wood Sandpiper, Great Egret, Water Rail, Northern Lapwing and Grey Heron. Other birds you can see in the surrounding area are Wryneck, Cuckoo, Great Grey Shrike, Red Kite, Black Kite, Skylark, Red-backed Shrike, European Stonechat and Greater Whitethroat. In the forest areas that are adjacent to the nature reserve breed Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Golden Oriole and Eurasian Nuthatch.

It's a 5 minute walk from tram-station Bollerstaudenstraße (line 5) or bus stop Mundenhof (line 19). Also near these stations there is anough space for car-parking.
