Description

The area known as Hangelarer Heide belongs geologically to the roughly adjoining Bergische Heideterrasse, and thus to the greater Wahner Heide area. The area consists of a variety of different parts: an airfield site, agricultural land, former gravel and sand pits as well as other excavation areas, open land and meagre grassland. More than 45 plant species, 6 plant communities and 94 animal species were recorded in the area of the Hangelarer Heide.
