Description
The complete area is maybe worth a day of birdwatching. There are different types of forest. The western parts are more the pine forest type while the eastern parts are old decidudous forest, mixed with wet areas. Near the village of Bliestorf you will find a small but productive wetland, good for geese, ducks and waders, usually visited by birds of prey. The surrounding farmland in the east are run by an organic farmer, these fields are excellent for thrushes and some rare farmland species. In the north west you find an area of wet meadows which also holds farmland species.

Access
There is a bus line going to Bliestorf but I would recommend using a car or even better a bike. You can`t enter the woods by car but you can park on various good spots.

Going by bike or car it is worthwhile to stop at many places around, Bliestorf, Krummesse, Kronsforde, Oberbüssau and Schenkenberg. Small rivers sometimes hold Grey Wagtail and there seems to be always a Red Kite soaring. You will find organic farming at the Gut Bliestorf and Stadtgut Krummesse. The Elbe-Lübeck Kanal (Channel) at Krummesse can be productive too and a nice walk. Krummesse, Kronsforde and Wulfsdorf have breeding White Stork.
