The Neßmersiel reservoir and the adjacent salt marshes are interesting for many species of birds, they find peace and food there.
Neßmersiel is a small coastal resort between Norddeich and Dornumersiel. The Neßmersiel storage polders and the salt marshes are very popular breeding and resting places for a wide variety of water and wading bird species. A bird observation tower is located on the 13 hectare reservoir, surrounded by salt marshes and meadows. It enables undisturbed insights of waders and water birds. A visit is worthwhile here at any time of the year. You can regularly see Northern Lapwing, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Greylag Goose, Common Greenshank, Common Redshank, Mute Swan, Common Shelduck, Great Cormorant, Spoonbill, Great Egret, Eurasian Curlew, Avocet, Grey Heron and many other wading and water birds.
