The "Vogelinsel" (Bird Island) is located near Treuchtlingen, a beautiful area in Bavaria in southern Germany where birdwatchers can certainly enjoy themselves. Birds we encountered in 3 visits on and around the island : Red Kite, Black Kite, White-throated Dipper, Penduline Tit, Common Nightingale, Little Grebe,Great Crested Grebe,Black-necked Grebe, Common Cuckoo, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Wryneck, Mute Swan, Mallard, Black Tern, Great Crested Grebe, Great Cormorant, Grey Heron, Great Egret, White Stork, Greylag Goose, Eurasian Wigeon, Gadwall, Red-crested Pochard, Common Teal, Garganey, Northern Shoveler,Tufted Duck, Common Buzzard, Eurasian Sparrowhawk, Northern Goshawk, European Honey-buzzard, Eurasian Skylark, Barn Swallow, House Martin, Grey Wagtail, White Wagtail, Tree Pipit, Red-backed Shrike, Eurasian Wren, Dunnock, Sedge Warbler, Reed Bunting, Reed Warbler, Great Reed Warbler, Garden Warbler, Blackcap, Greater Whitethroat, Common Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Wood Warbler, European Pied Flycatcher, Common Redstart, Black Redstart, European Robin, Mistle Thrush, Fieldfare, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Crested Tit, Eurasian Blue Tit, Great Tit, Eurasian Nuthatch, Osprey, Eurasian Kestrel, Grey Partridge, Common Pheasant, Corn Crake, Common Quail, Eurasian Moorhen, Eurasian Coot, Herring Gull, Black-headed Gull, Common Tern, Stock Dove, Common Wood Pigeon, Common Swift,Eurasian Eagle Owl.

The area is easily accessible by car. There are several parking facilities around the lake. You can explore the area on foot. But with a bicycle is also possible.
