Description

Along with Wallcreeper (winter visitor) other species in this area include Western Rock Nuthatch, Blue Rock Thrush, Long-legged Buzzard, Common Buzzard, Peregrine Falcon, Eurasian Goshawk, Eurasian Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Opposite the quarry are hills with small caverns in which Little Owl can be seen. We also saw 14 Alpine Accentor and Black Redstart in the quarry. We went down to the waterfall after, turned right before the recreation center and 50 meters further down and took the right path again. Walk about 50 meters and you'll find Firecrest and tits here. There's also a chance for White-throated Dipper at the waterfalls.

Access

Take the old main road (63) towards Sidirokastro. Take the turn past hotel Agnatio and follow the road for 2 km until you reach a sign on the right ΚΤΗΜΑ ΓΑΛΒΑ (recreation center). Follow this track until you reach a fork in the road: left goes to the waterfalls (GPS 41.265, 23.413) and right goes up to the quarry (GPS 41.258, 23.413). Take this track and follow it up the hill. Unless you have a 4x4 you will need to park about 100 meters further down from the quarry and walk up as the road is rough. There are two areas with bee hives on the way up the second larger area has old buildings and plenty of space to park. Walk up from here and the quarry opening is on the right.
