Macedonia  >  Greece

The lagoons at the saltworks of Alyki Kitrous give a nice view of Greater Flamingo and a variety of other interesting birds.

Description

The Alyki Kitrous area is an active saltwork so it has to be observed mainly from the outside. Though it is possible to walk (at least no one stopped me) through the entrance at the N side of the site, and follow the shore and from there observe Greater Flamingo, Black-winged Stilt and Dalmatian Pelican and other shorebirds. On the W side there is a gate (always locked) from there Collared Pratincole can be seen.

The saltworks are not enclosed from the S side, so it's possible to enter that way. However an advice is not to walk too far in, because it is not allowed. Anyway while walking there keep an eye open for Calandra Lark and Greater Short-toed Lark.
