Halastó is a Ramsar site maintaining breeding and migrating waterfowl populations of outstanding importance.
The birdlife along Halastó Nature Trail includes breeding and migrating species and is particularly valuable. In the last 35 years, nearly 300 species have been observed here, which makes the area one of the most important bird habitats in Central Europe.
Very nice observations are possible. Bluethroat at the entrance, a bunch of Bearded Tit at the end of the walk. The birdlist provides a list of species that has been observed by us.
We had no luck with Aquatic Warbler, Menetries's Warbler and Glossy Ibis, but should be possible in the area.
Turn to Hortobágy-Halastó on the mainroad 33 close to the 67th milestone and drive until the Halászbárka Information Centre. Click on the P in the map for directions. On the road look out for Common Crane, White Stork, Black Stork and Red-footed Falcon. The route indicated on the map is about 5 km (one way).
