In addition to La Vota, the largest lake, there are La Vota Piccola, La Vota Piraina, and La Vota Nuova. The area covers 23 hectares. The last brackish coastal lake on Calabria's Tyrrhenian coast is a resting place and sometimes a nesting site for a wide variety of migratory birds, including: Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Great Cormorant, Little Bittern, Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Little Egret, Squacco Heron, Mallard, Eurasian Wigeon, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, Garganey, Common Pochard, Western Marsh Harrier, Osprey, Eurasian Moorhen, Eurasian Coot, Kentish Plover, Black-winged Stilt, Black-tailed Godwit, Ruff, Common Sandpiper, Little Gull, Mediterranean Gull, Black Tern, Grey Wagtail, White Wagtail, Cetti's Warbler, Reed Warbler, and Great Reed Warbler. The trails around the lakes are immersed in nature and are an ideal place for birdwatchers.

Lago La Vota di Gizzeria is easily reached by motorway via the A2 motorway, exiting at Lamezia Terme and Falerna. Taking the SS 18 northbound from Lamezia Terme or southbound from Falerna, after a few kilometers, you'll reach the La Vota lakes, located south of the Capo Suvero area of Gizzeria. Press P on the map for directions.

Italiano: In autostrada i laghi possono raggiunti facilmente tramite l'autostrada A2 con le uscite di Lamezia Terme e Falerna. Imboccando la SS 18 in direzione nord se si proviene da Lamezia Terme o in direzione sud provenendo da Falerna si incontrano, dopo pochi chilometri, i laghi La Vota, posti a sud della località Capo Suvero di Gizzeria.
