Description

Tevere Farfa Nature Reserve (Riserva Naturale Regionale Nazzano Tevere Farfa) is a wetland area north of Rome, on the place where the Tiber and Farfa rivers merge. It’s one of Lazio’s most important wetlands. Long stretches of calm water, reedbeds, riverbank forests and other marshy habitats create a quiet atmosphere where herons, cormorants, ducks, waders and birds of prey are easy to observe. Among the birds you can encounter are Osprey, Black Kite, Little Bittern, Grey Heron, Great Egret, Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, European Turtle Dove, Pygmy Cormorant, European Bee-eater and Common Kingfisher.

Access

Tevere Farfa Nature Reserve is located 40 km north of Rome. On the A1 motorway take the Fiano Romano exit. Then follow the signs for Nazzano or Torrita Tiberina. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking. By train: Line FL1 (Rome–Fiumicino–Orte), Poggio Mirteto Scalo stop, with bus connections to Nazzano and the centers of the Reserve.

Because the terrain is mostly flat, the walking paths are gentle and accessible, winding along the river and offering views of both open water and dense vegetation. The walking route shown on the map is about 2 km one way (4 km out and back).

You can also make a boat trip on the river or rent a canoe. For more info see the link below.
