Description

Lake Būšnieki is a nature reserve that was established in 2004 to protect various biotopes of European significance. It is 49 hectares wide and is included in the European Protected Areas Natura 2000 network. There is a 9 km long nature trail that stretches around the entire lake. But if you don't want to make al long hike you can best focus on the western part of the lake. This part is most interesting for birders. This is the marshy area of the lake, where a wooden boardwalk is constructed with a viewing platform for birders with benches and an information board with pictures of birds that can be seen at Lake Būšnieki. Many waterbirds and marsh birds can be seen here. From Great Bittern to Little Grebe, and from White-tailed Eagle to Bearded Tit.
