Description

The abundance of water in De Blikken attracts many ducks and geese in winter. Eurasian Wigeon and Greater White-fronted Goose graze on the banks. Small waders scavenge their food along the muddy banks. In the spring, meadow birds such as Northern Lapwing and Black-tailed Godwit nest here. Hundreds of Black-headed Gull and dozens of Black-necked Grebe and Avocet breed on the centrally located islands. The number of breeding Barnacle Goose is increasing every year.
