A quiet pond and bird-rich area near the Wadden Sea. A good place for observing breeding Avocet, Little Ringed Plover and Eurasian Oystercatcher.

Description

The Klutenplas (which means 'the pond of the Avocet') is a protected flooded piece of land that attracts many birds. From a viewpoint you have a surprisingly beautiful view. Many species of birds can be seen from here.

The breeding birds are protected against foxes with electric fence. Breeding birds that can be seen here: Little Ringed Plover, Avocet, Eurasian Oystercatcher and Northern Lapwing.

Other birds that can often be seen here: Eurasian Spoonbill, Common Sandpiper, Ruff, Common Redshank. With a little luck you can spot Montagu's Harrier or Little Egret.

Drive north from Westernieland; a narrow road that ends at the dike. Here you park the car (See the P on the map). It's a 30 minute walk from here.
