A small pond for waders and ducks between two dikes with a concrete wall with nesting holes for Sand Martin.

Description

The breeding wall for Sand Martin has been discovered by the birds and is used yearly by a good number of pairs. The pond has often waders like Ruddy Turnstone , Dunlin and Common Redshank . There can be a variety of ducks, like Northern Shoveler , Gadwall and in winter Eurasian Wigeon . During migration the area will be visited by White Wagtail , Western Yellow Wagtail (including the rare Grey-headed Wagtail (thunbergi) and Western Yellow Wagtail (flavissima) ) and Meadow Pipit.

Nederlands: Een kleine vijver voor steltlopers en eenden tussen twee dijken met een betonnen muur met nestgaten voor Sand Martin. De broedmuur voor Sand Martin is inmiddels ontdekt door de vogels en wordt jaarlijks door een flink aantal paren gebruikt. De vijver heeft vaak steltlopers zoals Ruddy Turnstone, Dunlin en Common Redshank. Er kan een verscheidenheid aan eenden zijn, zoals Northern Shoveler, Gadwall en in de winter Eurasian Wigeon. Tijdens de trek wordt het gebied bezocht door White Wagtail, Western Yellow Wagtail (inclusief de zeldzame Grey-headed Wagtail (thunbergi) en Western Yellow Wagtail (flavissima)) en Meadow Pipit .

The holes in the Sand Martin wall are closed every winter by volunteers from Vogelwerkgroep Texel (www.vwgtexel.nl), so that the Sand Martin can dig its own nest passages again in the spring to breed.
