The forests are inhabited by Black Woodpecker, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Crested Tit, Pied Flycatcher and Tawny Owl.

Visit the different fenns in spring and summer for waterbirds like Little Grebe, Common Teal, Greylag Goose, Common Pochard and Water Rail. In late summer waders can be seen on the mud when some fenss dry out.

The area is also very rich in dragonflies and rare insects like Wart-biter and Heath grasshopper.
