The birdhide at the Westerplas is a good place to observe birds. Anything can show up here during migration and you have a nice view on a Great Cormorantbreeding colony.
Almost all Dutch duck species are found here, along with, Spoonbill, Great Crested Grebe, Eurasian Coot and many gulls. Various types of shy reed birds house in the broad reed collars, of which the mysterious Great Bittern is perhaps the most special. But also many songbirds such as Common Redpoll, Bluethroat and Reed Bunting can be found here.
The best way to get there is by bike. From the bike-parking it's a 100 m walk to reach the hut. With car you park at the end of Reeweg. There is no official parking. From there it's a 600m walk to reach the hut.
